Make a statement with this handcrafted money clip made in my small studio in the mountains of California using a beautiful 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar that has been securely attached in a bezel on the face of the money clip. This 100 year old coin clip will certainly make an impression on anyone who sees it.
Minting of the Morgan Silver dollar commenced in 1878 but was suspended after 1904, when demand was low and the silver bullion supply became exhausted. Under provisions of the Pittman Act of 1918, over 270 million silver dollars were melted, and later in 1921, coinage of the silver dollar was resumed. The Morgan design with some slight refinements was produced in 1921 only. In December 1921, the mint stopped producing Morgan Dollars and started producing the new Peace Silver Dollar, which was minted through 1935. No silver dollars were produced from 1936 through 1970. Then in 1971 the Eisenhower Silver Dollar was introduced.
The Morgan Silver Dollar is composed of 90% silver, 10% copper and contains .773 ounces of pure silver. The highly-polished stainless steel money clip is brand new.
Silver Dollars such as this one in extremely nice condition are becoming harder to find. In recent times collectors have hoarded these coins because of their historic significance, value and high silver content. This coin would probably grade as Almost Uncirculated (with strong, well-defined hair lines throughout), but please examine the pictures and grade it to your own satisfaction.
