Up for auction is vintage Art Nouveau Childs Ceramic Hand Mirror and matching Brush in box base w metal handles.  This set is probably from the 1900’s and has a very Art Nouveau look to the fairy in the flowers and the metal handle designs.  Women from wealthy families enjoyed their personal possessions and I understand a hand mirror was a “must have” for every vanity, including the children’s room.  Many of the porcelain-backed hand mirrors were made in France and Germany.  So perhaps this originated from a rich immigrant’s child since it has no notation of origin anywhere on the set.
This set is in the original cardboard box, with a cloth inset for the mirror and brush.  There is a label on the front of the box.  There is no lid for this set.
The cloth is a little soiled but that would be commiserate with its age, since it is over one hundred years old
The black and white paper label on the end of the box reads:  TOILET CASE.
The hand mirror was definitely made for a child, as it is about 6 ¾ inches tall whereas an adult hand mirror I have is about 9 ¾ inches tall
The mirror is beveled, and some of the glass has some crackling in the glass, particularly on the left side.  See photos 5, 6 & 7
The backside of the mirror is ceramic, with a figural portrait of a blue fairy in a blue gauzy gown amongst beautiful Fuchsia flowers.  There is a little loss of the design in the center, but again, considering the age, its condition is commiserate with its age.
I have not attempted to do any polishing to the metal.  This may be the original gold wash on the metal, I do not know.  There are some scratches etc. and I am not sure what the metal is, but it is definitely an art nouveau design with no signature.
The hair brush has an oval ceramic backside which is a matching design to the mirror, a beautiful brunette fairy, wearing blue surrounded by Fuchsia flowers.
All bristles are intact
Again, condition of this brush is very good and much better condition than I would expect due to its age
