RARE
Nikon Blimp
Up for bids is this rare promotional Nikon blimp / cold weather case for your Nikon. The blimp case is basically designed to muffle the sound of the shutter and    motor noise when shooting. As we all know, some of our cameras aren't the quietest - especially our classic ones!
This particular yellow Blimp was produced primarily for the photographers at the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid in 1980. It was designed to contain the Nikon    F2H, the high-speed behemoth F2 at the time.
The case's distinctive yellow colour and bold Nikon logo on the outside made sure that television cameras would clearly show that Nikon cameras were being used    at the international event.
The blimp has a large arm hole on one end. A zipper on the top allows the camera to be inserted and a flap design on the front would allow the lens to emerge.    The rear of the blimp had another flap, which, when lifted would allow the user to look through the viewfinder of the camera. For cameras that had external    rangefinders, the blimp also incorporated a clear plastic window on the front. A secondary hole on the front was positioned to enable most light meters to work, and also to allow viewing of aperture or shutter speed info through the viewfinder for cameras which needed ambient light to see those settings in the viewfinder.
Inside the blimp you could find a loop sewed inside as well as a green fabric pocket. Not sure what those would have been used for.
Inside the material feels like a neoprene which would provide pretty good protection from the wind and moisture.
Needless to say, it has probably been some time since you have seen one of these, if ever. Needless to say, this is your opportunity to snap this one up for your    collection.
As mentioned, this blimp could accommodate an F2H at the time, so other big cameras can equally be accommodated, like a Nikon D3X, D4, D5, D6...
As you can see from the photographs, the blimp is in very good condition with a few stains and light wear.
