Teddy Bear Vintage Mohair OOAK Zimm's Bears and Hares 1989

Description

This one of a kind Mohair Bear is made by the artist Barbara G Zimmerman of Zimm's Bears and Hares.  Ears, head, legs, arms and paws are all attached with discs and pins to create moving joints.  Until 1993 Barbara depended on word of mouth to spread her business, after 1993 she started setting up at craft shows to expand her bear business.  She sold bears at teddy bear shows in Boonesborough Days, Thurmont's Colorfest, the Bedford, PA., Fall Festival and the Maryland Christmas Show. Her bears are from size 6 1/2 to 36 inches tall, when standing straight.  The mohair is dyed, paw pads are made of leather or ultra suede, coal black glass eyes and nosed made of pearl cotton.  They have little bear toenails. Each bear is accompanied by a card that indicates the materials in it and a "tush" tag (on bear's bottom) and is hand signed on right lower paw. She used doll needles up to 10 inches long, quilting pins and upholstery needles to stitch by hand.  This bear is 8" inches tall and light brown with stitching on nose and black glass eyes.  Her bears original sold from .00 to 5.00. Barbara Zimmerman passed away in 2003 at the age of 69. Please see attached pictures to appreciate her special craft.
